This week’s Caritale talks about the recent ‘fake news’ notification put out by the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Smriti Irani. The notification was subsequently revoked by the Prime Minister’s Office. Here, I have not drawn Irani’s face and have instead put a placard there with the announcement scribbled on it as an intentional move because the mode of communication was a press release and not a statement. In the next section, I have tried to imagine a conversation between Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussing the issue at hand, especially the backlash from the media. I end the caricature with a reporter announcing the withdrawal of the decision. To arrive at a conclusion has been left to the readers.
